CERNET EDU and UMASS Promotes Education Exchanges between China and U.S.A
On 21, April 2011, the President of University of Massachusetts Jack Wilson, on behalf of the University of Massachusetts, signed the strategic cooperation agreement with CERNET EDU. The agreement aims to further China’s education exchange and cooperation with America and helps more Chinese students enter into American Universities. The guests presented in the meeting were Vice President of University of Massachusetts Marcellette Williams, Allan Guo, dean of the China Research Institute of UMass, Patricia Dognazzi, Executive Assistant of the president, Liang Youneng, president of the board of CERNET, Zhu Yidong, executive vice general manager, Sun Li, chief representative of the Chinese office of UMass, and some other staff of the China office also attended the meeting.
As an international education group, CERNET EDU was invested and administrated by the Ministry of Education. It is providing supporting education exchanging service for the University of Massachusetts in China. University of Massachusetts was founded in 1863. It is famous both in the United States and throughout the world. This year, the Times of London awards the UMass “University of Gold Standard”. It ranks 19th in the latest Top 100 University. The President was invited by Tsing Hua University to attend the 100th Anniversary of the university and President Forum of Top 100 World Universities.
University of Massachusetts always actively promotes the education exchange between China and US. In the early stage, it accepted Chinese students assigned by the government to study in America. Famous alumni include President of Peking University ZHOU Qifeng, former President of Sichuan University LU Tiecheng. In recent years, University of Massachusetts works with China universities in the areas of united laboratories, technology achievement transformation, and teacher training. What’s more, by the cooperation with Tsing Hua University and CERNET EDU, it attracts more Chinese students to study in America.
The president of University of Massachusetts expressed that the university will enlarge the scale of enrollment in China. The university will deepen the cooperation with China’s counterpart. After finishing the study in the US, China’s students will make a great contribution to their home country’s development and also the long-term cooperation between two countries.
