China Scientist Jianping Wu Awarded Jonathan B. Postel Awards
The 78th International Internet Engineering Organization IETF Meeting ended on 12 Nov. 2010 in Beijing. China scientist Jianping WU was granted 2010 Jonathan B. Postel Awards. In the awarding ceremony, Chairman and CEO Amour of the International Internet Association highly prized Jianping WU’s great contribution to the development of China’s internet technology.
Amour said Mr. Wu had foreseen the importance and influence of the Internet as early as 20 years ago. He and his team were making every effort to put it to use. They developed the largest-scale national academy network CERNET and IPv6 experimental net CNGI-CERNET2. That drove China's internet technology up to a higher level. Amour emphasized, besides Mr. Wu's excellent work in the internet and team building, Mr. Wu did well in participating the academic activities of IETF and he succeed in developing many international-standard RECs.
The Jonathan B. Postel Service Award is an award named after Jon Postel. The award has been presented every year since 1999 by the Internet Society to "honor a person who has made outstanding contributions in service to the data communications community."
Jianping Wu, the professor of Department of Computer Science and Technology in Tsinghua University, is the director of CERNET Experts Committee and Network Center. He is also director of national engineering laboratory for Next Generation Internet and Chief Scientist of Project 973. Mr. Wu expressed his appreciate for the award from International Internet Organization and his resolution for the next generation internet technology based on IPv6.
